If you are you looking for a soul food restaurant in Atlanta, then Greens & Gravy needs to be on your list! Their Sunday dinner vibes mixed with dim lighting and soulful music is enough to make any Southern grandma green with envy.
This black-owned restaurant is nestled in Atlanta’s re-emerging Westview neighborhood. With an intimate venue and friendly hosts, you feel right at home when you arrive. Once seated, they take your drink order. I looked at the menu online prior to arriving so I knew I was getting the red Kool-Aid. Yes, that’s right, they serve red Kool-Aid! Grape as well, but I prefer red! The menu actually says “Red Kool-Aid.” In the comments below, let me know which one is THE red Kool-Aid in your house. Cherry or Tropical Punch?
I usually get the skillet butter pecan cornbread. It is BOMB! Sweet, crunchy edges, yet still moist. Full warning, there are little pieces of corn throughout it and although I don’t like corn in my cornbread (I can’t be the only one), I still tear it up because it is THAT GOOD!
I have also tried the Maryland crab cake (pictured below). The bad news is it came out with the rest of the food instead of as an appetizer so I only took one bite of it because I wanted to get to the star of the show…the lemon pepper honey fried chicken! However, I did take the crab cake home and I smashed it for breakfast the next day. It was still tasty and the crust was crispy after warming it up in the microwave (which I usually hate doing).
Back to the lemon pepper honey fried chicken. When I tell y’all it is the BEST fried chicken I’ve ever had, I mean it from the bottom of my heart! It is perfectly seasoned, fried to perfection, and then lightly drizzled with the honey sauce. There is additional sauce on the plate so you can dip the chicken in it if you please. Normally I put hot sauce on fried chicken, but I couldn’t disrespect such a masterpiece. My advice is to just taste the chicken before grabbing the hot sauce.
Now on to the fixins (sides). I ALWAYS get the mac an cheese. It also comes out in a cast iron skillet. It has a thick top layer of bubbling cheese and when you stick your fork in it to take a bite, there’s a string of cheese that stretches from the dish. It’s so creamy, cheesy, and gooey! I was surprised that I liked it because I usually pass on mac & cheese at restaurants since they never live up to my taste buds’ standards.
The chicken and mac and cheese is so heavy that I usually opt for lemon pepper asparagus because it is light and has a smoky flavor. When I don’t care about having double starches as sides, I get the whipped sweet potatoes. At other restaurants, I have to add butter, cinnamon, and sugar to sweet potatoes, but they are already amazing as is. Lastly, the greens…I was extremely disappointed. They were just flavorless which was shocking because everything else was bursting with flavor. Disclaimer: I have only had the greens once, so maybe I caught a bad batch. My friends who have tried the greens said they were good.
One day I will venture off and try an entree other than the lemon pepper honey fried chicken, but the recipe is just so good that I get it every time. So far, everyone that I have recommended to visit Greens & Gravy and order the fried chicken has loved it! If you’re in the Atlanta area and want to try a good soul food spot, you have to check out Greens & Gravy.
Since the restaurant is so small I always make a reservation. Doing so, I have never had to wait upon arrival. However, without a reservation, I have been turned away because they are booked. So make sure you secure a table! Let me know if you go or if you’ve ever been in the comments below!

This post had my mouth watering! Chicken sounds delish. I know you appreciate good food much as I do and I’ve always been a sucker for good fried food. Golden fried shrimp. Pappadeaux shrimp and chicken. Let’s just say, by description alone, this one seems to be making my list. Lol
