One day I was on twitter and was tagged in a thread of Atlanta restaurants. I noticed Roc South Cuisine & Cocktails was mentioned a few times so I went to their Instagram page. The food looked AMAZING, but I wondered “does it taste as good as it looks?” I’m here to tell you that it absolutely does! However, Roc South Cuisine is much more than just good food. Friendly staff, beautiful decor, and overall good vibes. I will detail my full review below…
Ambiance
As soon as you walk in and scan the place you notice that it is modern and plush. The waiting area is a grand, blue tufted couch. I was there during brunch on a Sunday and they were playing 90s R&B. Loud enough to hear but not too loud that you are screaming to have a conversation.
Service
I made a reservation online a couple of days beforehand, but we were running late as usual. I called and asked if it would be a problem and they simply changed my reservation time so it wouldn’t get canceled. We were greeted upon arrival and notified that our table would be ready in a few minutes. Once seated our server was very pleasant and attentive. Our food came out promptly and hot!
Presentation
Every single plate is Instagrammable yall!! It’s possible I just made that word up, but I bet you know exactly what I mean. The meals were plated so well that you almost don’t want to mess it up. I said almost lol. It took me no time to dig into the mac & cheese! Yea so I broke food blogger rule number 1, get the pics before digging in.
Taste
My absolute favorite item was the mac & cheese! The top crust layer was perfection. The inside was cheesy and gooey, but not runny. The honey lemon pepper wings were bussin as well. They were more lemon pepper than honey but had a hint of sweetness. The chicken and waffles were good, especially the waffle. It had some special sauce on it that reminded me of a butter pecan flavor. The chicken was good, but it could use a little hot sauce or salt to balance out the sweetness from the syrup/sauce. Mike ordered the catfish and grits and loved it! We would absolutely go back and order all of this again.
Drinks
Although I do not drink much and usually opt for a coke, I think it is worth mentioning that Roc South has a full bar! I mean “cocktails” is in the name of the restaurant after all. Mike enjoyed the fresh-pressed lemonade.
